fort chipewyans problems are vocalized

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story/2008/05/07/chip-water.html

Here is an article from CBC, hopefully if the people of fort chipewyan keep bringing up the issues of their water quality and how it is affecting their quality of life some changes arise. I believe that the leaders of the Oil Sands industry need to own up to the health issues the oil sands are causing not only to the people in Fort Chip but also other towns and cities along the river. They should also consider all the damage they are causing to the environment by releasing these pollutants into the atmosphere.

  1. I feel really sorry for this community; to be facing so many health problems must create quite a toll. Especially since they are now living in fear of their own drinking water. Their angry at the situation is quite justified.
Though at the same time I have to give props to Suncor, they are trying to work with the local community to improve the situation. Since they are meeting the Albertan government environmental codes, they could just claim that is not their fault and be done with it. Instead they are now making an effort and extending an olive branch.

  2. Suncor does deserve a pat on the back perhaps but they don't deserve much recognition. They are just paying lip service in order to take the heat away from themselves. If anything, the government should make stiffer regulations for the company of the oilsands to follow. What's in place now are obviously not any where near where they need to be. Why is there a measurement of safe levels for chemicals that cause cancer in water? The safe level is zero!
